Tone Analyzer

Detect the overall tone of your text — formal, casual, persuasive, academic, or humorous — with a confidence breakdown.

How it works

This tool examines multiple linguistic features of your text to estimate its tone across five categories. Each category is scored independently and the dominant tone is highlighted.

  • Formal: detected by long sentences, complex vocabulary, passive voice constructions, third-person pronouns, and the absence of contractions and slang.
  • Casual: indicated by short sentences, contractions, first/second-person pronouns, colloquial expressions, exclamation marks, and informal phrasing.
  • Persuasive: identified through calls to action, rhetorical questions, imperative verbs, superlatives, urgency words, and comparative language.
  • Academic: signaled by specialized terminology, citation-style phrases, hedging language, long words, nominalization, and objective phrasing.
  • Humorous: recognized through exaggeration, informal interjections, wordplay markers, exclamation patterns, and comedic phrasing.

Scores are relative — they show how strongly each tone is present compared to others. All analysis runs entirely in your browser; no text is sent to any server.
